114TH EXPANSION · STANDARD LEGAL

Three years ago, Wizards of the Coast teased a storyline that would eventually close out Magic’s Metronome arc. That story ends on October 2, 2026, with Reality Fracture — the game’s 114th expansion, and a set that turns Magic’s own history into its central mechanic. The planeswalker Jace Beleren, now going by “the Theorist,” has spent the story rebuilding an entire alternate Multiverse called the Echoverse: a version of reality with the Phyrexians, the Eldrazi, and Nicol Bolas quietly erased from it.

Prerelease events run September 25 through October 1, with the full worldwide release landing October 2 and a digital release on MTG Arena and Magic Online a few days early, on September 29. Every card is legal in all formats from day one. Here’s what’s confirmed about the set so far.

Core concept

A Multiverse with a mirror world

Reality Fracture’s signature idea is the echoed pair — familiar Magic characters reimagined as their Echoverse counterparts, printed side by side in the set. The clearest example so far is Chandra, whose Echoverse version channels ice instead of fire, inverting one of Magic’s most recognizable characters at the elemental level.

At the story’s heart is Hexhaven, a dark inversion of the beloved school setting Strixhaven, and a new Jace token planeswalker tied directly to the Theorist’s plan to rewrite the Multiverse in his own image.

Collector treatments

Shattered mirrors and facet foils

Every Reality Fracture Collector Booster carries Rares and/or Mythics in traditional foil, plus a set of treatments built specifically around the set’s twin-reality theme.

Echoed pairs Borderless variants Shattered mirror cards Facet foils

The set’s headliner chase card is a serialized print numbered out of just 500 copies, appearing only in Collector Boosters at an extremely low pull rate — likely the single hardest pull in the entire release.

Land art

Fifteen towers, one panorama

Reality Fracture introduces Borderless Tower basic lands — 15 cards across the five basic land types, three artworks per type, each depicting one of the towers scattered throughout the Theorist’s Echoverse. Placed side by side, the full run assembles into a single continuous skyline. They’re available in both non-foil and traditional foil, and can be opened from Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, Bundles, and Secret Lair Bundles alike.

For Commander

One four-color deck, five for newcomers

Reality Fracture ships with a single four-color Commander deck built around the set’s story, bringing new cards into older formats the same way past capstone sets have. Alongside it, five mono-colored Commander: Foundations decks release the same day, giving newer players a low-friction way into the format without needing to untangle multicolor strategy on day one.

Story arc

A ten-episode finale

The lead-up story, written by Alison Lührs, has been running as a ten-episode series on MTG’s official story site, following Jace’s former allies as they team up to stop his plan — joined by a returning Wildspeaker from Magic’s past. The finale concluded on September 10, closing out the third and final arc of the Metronome storyline that’s been building since 2023.
